Branding Cost in 2026: Compare Scope and First-Year Budgets
Branding prices are meaningful only alongside the work included: positioning, identity, applications, revisions and rights. The dated offers below range from a contest pack to a substantial agency engagement. They are supplier examples, not market-wide budget bands. A design fee also leaves out costs such as naming, a domain, legal advice and rollout. The worked budgets show selected purchase combinations, not the complete cost of creating or protecting a brand.
What each budget buys
We read every vendor's own pricing page on 18 October 2026. The bands overlap because vendors sell different amounts of work at the same price; the right-hand column is the part that changes.
| Budget | What you buy | Published prices, 18 October 2026 | Who decides what it says |
|---|---|---|---|
| $599 to $2,499 | A design contest | 99designs brand identity pack, as shown in the dated capture below | You select the direction; scope and rights follow the package terms |
| $9,500 | Our studio package | Startup Branding, with the deliverables listed below | Shared with the studio |
| $10,000 or $15,000 | Two sprint examples | Upspire Labs $10,000; Proof of Work $15,000 | Read the actual positioning and approval scope |
| $20,000 to $60,000 | One agency's different scopes | Condensed describes multiple levels of strategy and identity work | More research, applications and review can change the engagement |
| From $38,800 | Identity and website example | The Branx, identity and a five-page site in the displayed currency | Includes a different deliverable set from identity alone |
| From $60,000 | Agency brand creation example | Ramotion | Confirm the proposed scope and timeline |
The contest tier is the easiest to see on one screen. Every package in 99designs' brand identity pack carries the same two promises; what the higher prices add is who is allowed to enter and how much help you get:

The captured grid shows Platinum promising fewer concepts than Gold, 40 against 50, while changing designer eligibility and support. More money does not necessarily buy more concepts. Treat the screenshot as a record of the displayed offer, and check the current package terms before purchasing.
Price alone does not tell you whether positioning is included. Ask who defines the audience, promise and differentiation, which evidence informs those decisions and what happens when the brief changes. Compare the written deliverables in startup branding agencies compared and brand identity design services.
What moves the price inside a tier
Condensed, a Brooklyn studio, publishes the most detailed breakdown we found of what more money buys at the same agency, and it is a useful checklist for reading anyone's quote:
- Rounds and options. At $10K to $15K Condensed shows "around 3 logo options with one round of revisions." At $40K to $60K it offers "up to four rounds of logo options." Upspire Labs includes up to two revision rounds in its $10,000 sprint and bills additional rounds at $175 an hour.
- Strategy depth. Condensed's base tier delivers a visual style guide and says plainly that it does not "set parameters for voice, tone, values, or positioning statements." Positioning and messaging arrive at $20K to $40K. Proof of Work puts positioning inside its $15,000 flat fee, settled in week one.
- Applications. Condensed's $15K to $20K tier doubles the mockups, the brand shown on a billboard, a shirt, collateral. Proof of Work includes "two brand applications." A website is usually a separate line: The Branx adds a five-page site and launch collateral for the difference between $22.7k and $38.8k, and Ramotion prices a one to five page site at $25,000 to $60,000 on top of the brand.
- Decision-makers. Condensed's top tier is "helpful when there is a large group of stakeholders involved," such as a board. More approvers usually means more rounds, and rounds are what the price buys.
- Files and rights. Ask for editable source and export formats, font and stock licences, and the contractual ownership terms. A vendor's copyright-transfer statement does not establish trademark availability or transfer third-party asset rights.
The costs outside the design fee
A design invoice is the visible part of branding. Four other costs come with it.
The name. If the company has no name yet, naming comes first, and most studios price it separately: Condensed runs naming at $5K to $25K, The Branx from $7.7k, and our naming and verbal identity is $5,000 flat. The process, and what free generators and contests offer instead, is in what brand naming is.
The trademark. The USPTO fee information lists a base application fee of $350 per class, with conditions and possible additional charges. These are government fees, separate from legal advice or clearance work, and filing does not guarantee registration. For comparison, the EUIPO fee schedule lists €850 for the first class, €50 for the second and €150 for each additional class for an online application covering ten years. Confirm the applicable jurisdiction, filing basis and current fees.
The domain. Check the registrar's initial and renewal prices, taxes and any premium-domain charge. The budgets below use a hypothetical $20 first-year registration cost; an already-owned name requires a separate purchase negotiation.
The rollout. A brand nobody applies is a PDF. The site, the deck and the product interface are where the identity gets used, and the site is usually the biggest of them; we priced every route to one in what a website costs in 2026.
Three first-year budgets, added up
These are illustrative purchase combinations using the dated prices above, not complete legal budgets or quotes. Filing does not guarantee registration. Clearance advice, additional classes, conditional application charges and later maintenance may add costs. The USPTO explains registration versus common-law rights and the maintenance schedule after registration.
Here are three illustrative combinations. Each assumes one US trademark class at the base filing fee and $20 for a standard domain; additional charges and services remain outside the totals.
| Stage | Design | Trademark and domain | First-year total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contest example | Captured entry brand identity pack: $599 | One class $350, domain assumption $20 | $969 before excluded costs |
| Studio example | Our identity package: $9,500 | One class $350, domain assumption $20 | $9,870; naming is separate if needed |
| Identity and website example | The Branx dated starting price: $38,800 | One class $350, domain assumption $20 | $39,170 before excluded costs |
The difference between these rows is purchased scope, not a rule about company funding stage. A founder may arrive with strong positioning before buying design, while a larger engagement can still need research. Confirm that the missing work has an owner.
Where our price sits
Our Startup Branding is $9,500 flat, in the studio band. It covers primary, horizontal, stacked and favicon-scale marks, a color palette and type system checked for interface use, a brand book with usage rules, and every file format in light and dark. First concepts arrive in two business days, the full package in seven to ten, with unlimited revisions on the direction you choose. If the name is not settled, naming and verbal identity is $5,000 flat and comes first.
Supplier prices are historical observations from 18 October 2026, not current quotes or a representative market survey. Direct references are linked beside the examples. The Branx page displayed these examples in US dollars; currency and scope can change. Government fee links were checked on 20 October 2026.
